Sharnell McGill- Daniel September 30, 2008 Sociology I believe that poverty faces America because more than 28 million people in the U.S. will be using government food stamps to buy essential groceries, the highest leven since the food assitance program was introduced in the 1960s. The current economy is not helping out the people that are really in need. The ecomomy is in such a recession that even middle class are starting to need government assitance.A long time ago it use to be a huge gap between the poor and the upper class there was no middle class and that really affected the economy and people were looked down upon if they were not part of the upper class.I believe that if the economy keeps going the way it continues to go, it will be the same as it was years ago with the poverty level. It is a shame that there are so many families that are going hungry and thirsty.
This subject touches me because it is sad to see so many people on the streets of Chicago without a home. Itsalso a shame when people have to choose between getting gasfor the car or putting food on their table. If families don’t have any gas in their car they are not able to go to work and they might get fired and then they can’t provide for their familes. I believe that maybe if we stop the war we could put that money back into the economy and help people out a little bit.
