In America blacks carry a certain image as does Hispanics and whites we all are looked at as what society labels us. Unfortunately as African Americans we have a reputation of committing criminal acts more often then any other race and this leaves a negative impression on us. This is something that is a major problem because not only does this stereotype those blacks who are actually successful and may not have committed one criminal act in there life but it causes some blacks to actually believe they are what people say they are and this does nothing but makes matters worse. What I mean by this is for example, if a young man grew up in a poor, low income neighborhood and all he was ever told was that people in his neighborhood would never amount to anything they would be poor there whole life, it takes an effect on him and would give him reason to believe that he is stuck in this situation, he is not able to make a change and if that is all you see or here it is most likely something you will start to believe. So, now this young man is in a state of mind where he feels he can’t change what he was born into so he does his best to adapt and survive to his surroundings. This is how many crimes start in this situation this young man is only doing what he has always known and what he has always been around. Now he is looked at as a criminal because society has forced him to believe that that is all he would and could ever be.
