As we may know, life for a teenage mother and her baby can be extremely difficult, especially if they don’t have the support needed. Teenage mothers are more likely to drop out of high school than girls that choose to wait to have children. Only 40 percent of teenagers who have children before age 18 go on to graduate from high school, compared to 75 percent of teens from similar social and economic backgrounds that don’t give birth until later ages. Due to the fact that many teenage mothers don’t graduate high school let alone go to college, many girls are forced to work minimum wage jobs because they don’t have the needed skills for a well paying job. Yes, some teens have the support of family members and state assistance; however, this help might not be around forever causing long-term problems financially. Those mothers that do graduate high school might not be able to handle both raising a child and going to college, leaving them in the same category as others.
